Career Clarity Newsletter - August Edition
Building Bridges: Your Support Network Matters ☀️
Happy August 🌟
This month, I've been reflecting on the power of community and support systems. Just as I cherished time visiting with family abroad, our professional journeys are enriched when we surround ourselves with people who truly see and value us.
The women in my programs remind me daily that transformation happens faster when we don't go it alone— when we create spaces where authenticity is celebrated, not hidden. 💫
1 | WHAT’S NEW 🌟
Celebrating Transformation: My Hybrid Programs in Action
My 5-week group coaching pilot program wrapped in May, and the results speak volumes (as shared in the July's issue):
Before: Unclear career direction, self-doubt, uncertainty about strengths
After:"I've gained more confidence… gotten clearer with my vision, really worked through my imposter syndrome. I feel more confident—at work, in interviews, and in myself."
Now I'm 3 weeks into the 10-week Leadership Accelerator, and the energy is incredible.
We’re tackling the challenges every aspiring and experienced woman of colour leader faces:
→ Wanting visibility but fearing being misunderstood or labeled “too assertive”
→ Feeling overlooked despite consistently delivering results
→ Leading already, but unsure how to take up space without burning out
The real magic is in the group—learning together builds accountability, support, and the confidence that comes from knowing you’re not facing challenges alone.

2 | SPOTLIGHT 💬
On August 11, I shared a LinkedIn post that resonated with professionals worldwide:
"Your name isn't 'too hard to pronounce. They're just too lazy or unwilling to learn it."
The response was overwhelming—not because of the numbers, but because of the stories. Names aren’t just labels; they’re deeply personal connections to our culture, family, and heritage. When they’re mispronounced or dismissed, it sends a subtle message about our value.
Creating inclusive workplaces can start with something as simple as learning someone’s name. Small actions can make a big difference:
→ Ask for phonetic pronunciations
→ Practice until you get it right
→ Apologize gracefully when you make a mistake
→ Encourage others to do the same
Let's commit to honouring each other's identities, one name at a time.
3 | PODCAST RECOMMENDATION 🎧
What to Share, What to Hold Back (Women at Work, feat. Kathy Phillips)
This episode explores the delicate balance of what to share with colleagues and staff—and how to know when sharing fosters connection versus when it could complicate relationships.
The late Kathy Phillips, former Columbia Business School professor, offered powerful insights into how expectations around authenticity have evolved, especially for women of colour and leaders.
She talks about a struggle many of us share: we all want to belong, and that often means opening up more about who we are—but there’s also the fear that sharing our differences might lead to exclusion. Phillips suggests being intentional about what, when, and with whom we share, so we can build genuine connections while minimizing risks.
It’s a powerful reminder that the very things that set us apart can also become bridges to deeper understanding at work.✨
4 | COACHING REFLECTION 🤔
When was the last time you felt truly seen and valued for who you are at work—not just for what you deliver?
Reflect:
Think of someone who pronounces your name correctly, remembers details you’ve shared, or acknowledges your unique perspective. How does that impact your sense of belonging and confidence?
Now flip it: How could you become that person for someone else?
Take action:
Notice the details – Learn a colleague’s preferred pronouns, name pronunciation, and correct spelling
Create space – In your next meeting, invite someone else’s voice or perspective
Show up authentically – Share one meaningful aspect of your background or experience
Remember: The support you want often starts with the support you give. Building community begins with noticing and valuing the people around you.
5 | LET'S STAY CONNECTED! ☕
