Career Clarity Newsletter - March Edition

From Hidden to Heard: Closing the Visibility Gap

Happy March!

March brings International Women’s Day — a moment to celebrate progress and reflect on how far we still have to go.

This year’s theme, Accelerate Action, resonates deeply with the women I work with. For many, the barrier to advancement isn’t capability — it’s visibility.

It’s the gap between the leader you already are and the leader others get to see.

If you’ve ever felt your work is stronger than the way it’s being recognized, this edition is for you.

1 | WHAT’S NEW 🌟

Strategic Positioning Module - Pilot Cohort Now Open

Curious about coaching but not ready for a full program?

The new self-paced Strategic Positioning module lets you explore coaching on your own schedule — with guidance when you need it.

This module is for you, if you’ve ever questioned:
"Why does it feel like my work isn’t being recognized the way it should?”

You’ll learn how to:

• Identify where your impact is being overlooked
• Assess whether you are telling the right story about your value
• Build a positioning statement you can use in performance reviews, networking conversations, or interviews

As a pilot participant, you will:

• Complete the module at your own pace during April
• Join me for a free session where we review your insights, refine your narrative, and map your next steps

During the session, we’ll also discuss what resonated most and where the module could be improved.

There is no cost to participate in the pilot, and I’m opening 2 spots for this round.

DM me on LinkedIn (Jennifer M Purcell) by March 27 to express your interest.

2 | SPOTLIGHT 💬

Why Strategic Positioning Isn't Optional

Many high-performing women tell themselves: "If I just keep delivering, people will notice."

Sometimes they do. Often they do not.

Impact without language is invisible.

When you cannot clearly articulate what you do, the problems you solve, and the results you drive — decision-makers fill in the gaps. Rarely in your favour.

Strategic positioning isn't self-promotion. It is making sure the story others tell about you matches the leader you already are.

Try this:

Write down one sentence you often use to describe your work.

Ask yourself:

  • Does it reflect what I deliver — or just what I do?

  • Does it emphasize effort — or impact?

Default: "I help the team manage the project and make sure things get done on time."

Reframed: "I lead [initiative] to deliver [outcome] by leveraging [specific strength]."

The difference is immediate — in how others hear you, and how you hear yourself.

This is a taste of the work inside the Strategic Positioning module — where you will go deeper and build a narrative that is clear, credible, and ready to use.

3 | PODCAST RECOMMENDATION 🎧

Create Visibility for Your Work
With Melody Wilding, Coaching for Leaders podcast

If strategic positioning resonates with you, this episode is a must-listen.

Melody reframes visibility as one of your leadership responsibilities — ensuring decision-makers understand the important work you and/or your team deliver, and the impact it creates.

One practical takeaway is the “pocket update.” A short, concise way to share a project, a key detail, and the result.

It's a simple habit that keeps your contributions from getting lost in the noise.

Ultimately, the episode reminds us that visibility isn’t about bragging. It’s fact-based reporting — sharing outcomes, wins, and milestones, and explaining why they matter.

4 | COACHING REFLECTION 🤔

Where Might You Be Playing Smaller Than Your Impact?

Many high-performing professionals assume their work should speak for itself.

But visibility isn’t only about results — it’s also about how you show up when those results are discussed.

This week, notice one moment where you could take a slightly more visible role.

Ask yourself:

• Did I contribute the insight I was thinking about?
• Did I connect my work to the broader outcome?
• Did I allow someone else to summarize my impact instead of doing it myself?

You don’t have to become someone else to be visible.

Often, strategic positioning begins with one small shift — choosing to claim your contribution clearly and intentionally.
